Learning and Growing!

I figured I would post about all of my learning experiences I have had lately. I really like to learn from other photographers and business people...so I have been trying to take advantage of some of the local learning experiences. Back in January or Feb? can't remember which - I went to a Seminar by Joe Buissink (http://www.joebuissink.com/) and Marcus Bell (http://www.studioimpressions.com.au/intro.htm) in Baltimore. It was fabulous!!! Joe is the photographer of the stars. I was standing there looking at some his albums including: Jennifer Lopez, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Christina Aquillera (no I don't know how to spell her name :), Christina Applegate (much easier name to spell!), and many others. Marcus is a fabulous photographer from Australia!! WOW - I could have listened to him speak for a month! 2 weeks ago I was able to hear Joe Buissink speak again in DC. This was a much smaller gathering - and was another fabulous opportunity to learn! This past Friday I went to Deleware to hear Kevin Kubota speak (www.kevinkubota.com). I have purchased a lot of software from him and he is from Oregon - so I figured I would take advantage of him being a bit closer to me. Next week I am attending The One Light Workshop (http://www.onelightworkshop.com/) I will post my reactions to it after!!! Finally I am registered at the local community college for a photography course that starts next month! I am excited that - I took 2 classes online last fall - and really enjoyed that so I hope this in person class is as good an experience! There are several other seminars and such that I would love to take - but I have to see what fits into the budget. One I am still debating on is David Williams Almost Alone to be held in Leesburg!! David Williams is another Australian!!! I figured I would keep you all up to date on the goings on here at K&R!!

Today I met with Karrie and Chad for their engagement session. They decided kind of late in the game that they wanted to go ahead and have a session with me - even though their wedding was only 2 weeks away! They decided they wanted to practice a bit in front of the camera - which is a great thing!!! We had a great session at the National Arboretum in DC. This is what I saw:
Karrie and Chad - you practiced well! I am really looking forward to your wedding later this month!!

The Kelly Family 3-31-07

Today, I was asked to go out to the Kelly's house and take some family photos. It was Mr. Kelly's 70th birthday and his whole family was going to be around - his 3 children and all of their children! This was a great opportunity to capture some great family images! Even the family dog and horses came out for some pictures!
Here is what I saw:

A couple of years ago the grandkids all did a pyramid, they decided why not try again:

The dog thought it was a kissing game more than a pyramid though!

And they all came down:

Now for the horses:
Thank you to the whole Kelly family for having me out to take pictures of your beautiful family. I hope to see you all again sometime!

Amy and Tim were married on St. Patty's day!! It turns out Amy was in a wedding I photographed last year! Allison and Kevin referred her to me or is it me to her? Anyway it was great to see Allison again, but Kevin (poor thing) had to stay in Hawaii!!
As I mentioned in a previous post, we had icky weather this weekend - so I had camped out in a hotel in Springfield, Virginia the night before - to assure nothing would stand in my way to be ready for this event!
Today's ceremony was held at St. Raymond of Penafort Church in Springfield, VA (http://www.straymonds.org/) and the reception was held at the Fort Myer's Officer's Club (http://www.fmmcmwr.com/myeroclub.htm).
Here is what I saw:
Adding the green sash to the dress for St. Patty!

Amy and Allison:
Amy and Tim - Thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding day, it was truly an honor. I had a great time with all of your St. Patty's day touches. I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness together!
Allison - it was great seeing you - and give Kevin my best. Thank you for referring me to Amy!! I hope you stay in Hawaii long enough for me to get my act together to come visit!!
Thank you Tim for assisting me today!

Jean and Joey were married at First Baptist Church of Clarendon (http://www.1bc.org/) and their reception was held at Top of the Town in Arlington (http://www.topofthetown.net/).
I can't say it was a beautiful day for a wedding! We had a wintry mix of ice and snow in the area. Since I had another wedding the next day - I planned ahead and allowed a lot of extra time to get to today's wedding - and had an overnight bag so I wouldn't have to go home. Turns out my plans were good - ase Russell reported 7 inches of snow at our house that evening! One my journey to the church in about 20 miles I passed 17 accidents!! It was a rough day for travelling!
Thankfully, the weather didn't dampen Jean or Joey's spirits and the wedding went off without a hitch!! The guests had a great time.
Here is what I saw:
Jean and her lovely sisters:
Jean and Joey were such good sports and came outside for some pictures with my trusty umbrella!
Jean's adorable nephew:
I got them to go outside yet again, they drew the line at snow angels - but you can kind see the snow falling in this shot!
Jean and Joey, Thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding, it was truly an honor. I wish you both a life time of love and happiness together! I hope you had fun on your surprise Honeymoon!!
Thank you Heather for assisting me today!
