I do a combination of Candid Artistic/Photojournalism/Traditional.
I photograph your wedding day as it is happening naturally—I
believe in being “invisible” so that I am able to capture
the spontaneous moments that make each wedding unique. However,
I also shoot a number of formal shots that are often requested by
couples, and I shoot them in a way that does not take much time out
of your day. During our consultation we will discuss what type of
pictures you would like and customize a photo plan that you will love.
Every wedding is a unique event. I am always “on my toes”
for what might happen next. I pay attention to the things that make
each wedding special, be it a theme, flowers, a traditional dance,
family traditions, etc. I don’t believe in a “one size fits
all” photography plan—that’s why I work with you to see
what the feeling of the event will be and to get to know your
personalities. I work with couples to see what’s important to them
and what they want for the day.
How many weddings will you shoot on our wedding weekend?
On our wedding day?
I will only shoot one wedding on any given day, in fact I prefer to
only do one wedding a weekend - but I will consider doing 2 weddings
in a weekend when my schedule permits. My commitment is to one couple
a day.
I shoot alone, although my husband, Russell tends to assist me with
equipment and film. When schedules don't permit Russell to attend, I
try to bring a different assistant. My assistant also serves to make
sure I get the "must takes" that people have provided for me.
Of course. See above for more information on this. Brides have requested
details of their dress bodices, church exteriors, their cakes, etc. This can
only be dangerous if you are hoping to recreate a photo you have seen and
don't keep an open mind to the fact that your wedding might afford different
opportunities (background, lighting, etc). I make every effort to accommodate
your requests.
What is your schedule during a wedding?
How long do traditional pictures take after the ceremony?
I am very flexible. I'll follow whatever schedule you have in mind.
It is great to start the day with the bride getting ready. It is a
relaxing time for her to get used to what it is like being photographed,
for us to chat about the day and generally just get comfortable, and
for me to meet people important to the wedding.
Depending on the couple's preference, formal photos can be taken before
or after the ceremony. I can also do the bride and her maids and the
groom and his groomsman separately before the wedding . Typically the
posed group photos take about 20-40 minutes, depending on the number of
combinations and people involved (larger wedding parties tend to take
more time). I prefer to go someplace private with the bride and groom
for a few photographs away from the hustle and bustle of the guests.
This is to ensure your eyes are focused toward me for the photos and
not at all the people standing around watching. Trust me, it is a huge
distraction! That is the only time I will request of you. After that,
we'll scoot back to your reception to catch up with your guests at the
cocktail hour.
I am able to photograph all weddings either digitally or with 35 mm film.
The digital images are all captured in color and can later be converted to black
& white or sepia tone in the printing process. If I shoot with film I usually
shoot a combination of B&W and color, unless you request otherwise.
I currently use four Professional Digital SLR (Single Lense Reflex)
camera bodies a Canon 5D, Canon 20D, and 2 Nikon D70's, with a variety
of compatible lenses and flashes. I keep all cameras and equipment
with me on your day so nothing is missed due to a camera malfunction.
I have always loved photography and shot photos for family and friends.
When I was looking for a photographer for my own wedding (I was married
in October 2003), I was shocked by the prices. I thought, “I
could do this!” In college, I majored in Psychology, and in my
training was always told - “to find the ideal career for you,
find something that you would do for free, and get paid for it!”
And I have found it!
Again, being a recent bride, I know all the planning you have done,
and all the effort you have put into the details. I know how fast
your day goes by and my goal is to capture the details so that you
can look back on your wedding day with the fondest of memories.
